Now that you've completed the initial treatment and you're moving on, it's important to recognize that you're going through a major transition. Don't expect too much of yourself too soon. Trying to resume a "normal" life, dealing with changes in your body, concerns about recurrence; all of these can create stress and weaken your mental health. But tending to your emotional well — being is just as important as taking care of your physical health. So be good to you.
Exercise regularly. Studies show that women diagnosed with early breast cancer have an improved quality of life, decreased fatigue and improved fitness in as little as 12 weeks of following an exercise program, three times a week. Keep in mind that it's always important to speak with your doctor before starting or altering an exercise program.
Tap into a support network — friends, family, spouse/partner, coworkers, spiritual communities, online discussion groups or formal organizations.
Join a yoga or tai chi class — both can improve your mood and well-being as well as relieve anxiety and depression.
Practice daily meditation — it decreases the negative effects of stress, anxiety and depression and gives you the opportunity to devote time to no one else but you.
